01 — The story

The story

Known locally as Jhulte Manore, the swinging towers of Farkande stand beside the Utawadi River, roughly 50 km from the city of Jalgaon in north Maharashtra. The two structures, each about 15 metres high, are more than 250 years old and are visited as a curiosity of early building skill in a district better known for its farms.

The towers are joined in such a way that when one is rocked gently, the other begins to sway in response. The surrounding countryside offers a look at village life, with small settlements and local markets close by. Visitors with more time often combine the trip with Patnadevi, a scenic spot, or with the Gautala Autramghat Sanctuary for wildlife.
