01 — The story

The story

Bhavali Dam is a dam and reservoir near Igatpuri in the hills of the Western Ghats. It holds back water used to irrigate farmland in the surrounding villages and helps to ease water shortages in the area, while the lake it creates supports local wildlife.

The reservoir is surrounded by green hills and valleys, and its banks are used for picnics, with viewpoints looking over the dam and the water. Boating and fishing are among the things people do here. It is often combined with other sights around Igatpuri such as Camel Valley, Tringalwadi Fort, the Ghatandevi temple, Ashoka Falls and the Trimbakeshwar Jyotirlinga.
