Privacy policy

Unmapia is a guide to places across India, on this website and in our Android and iOS apps. This page says what we collect, why, who helps us run the service, and how to delete your account.

Browsing without an account

You can read every place and district without signing in. We don’t use advertising or analytics trackers. Your browser keeps your light or dark theme choice. Our servers log each request (IP address, browser and the page asked for) to keep the service secure and to limit abuse; logs are kept only as long as needed for that.

What we collect when you sign up

  • Your account: email address and display name, and your password stored only as a secure hash. If you sign in with Google or Apple, we keep the account id they give us (and the email they share, which may be an Apple private-relay address).
  • What you keep: the places you save, and your trips with their days and notes.
  • What you send us: places you submit (text, location and photos) and reports about places that are wrong. When a place you submitted is published, it shows your display name as its author.
  • In the app: a notification token for your device and your notification choices. The app uses your location only to show places near you: it goes with that request and is not stored.

How we use it

  • To run the features you use: saving, trips, submissions and reports.
  • To tell you when a submission is approved, needs changes or is turned down, and, only if you opt in, when a new place is published near places you saved.
  • To send account emails: confirming your address and resetting your password.
  • To keep the service secure: sign-in sessions, rate limits and error reports.

We don’t sell your data, and we don’t share it with anyone for advertising.

Who helps us run Unmapia

These providers process data for us, only to provide their part of the service:

  • Our hosting, database and image storage providers, which hold the data above.
  • Google Maps, to show maps. Google’s own privacy policy applies to the map.
  • Firebase Cloud Messaging (Google), to deliver notifications to the app.
  • Resend, to deliver our emails.
  • Google and Apple, when you choose to sign in with them.
  • Sentry, which receives technical error reports so we can fix problems.

Deleting your account

You can delete your account at any time: on the website from your account page, or in the app from its account settings. Deleting is immediate and can’t be undone:

  • Your email, password and Google or Apple sign-in are removed, and every session is signed out.
  • Your saved places, trips and device notification tokens are deleted.
  • Places you submitted that were never published are deleted, with their photos.
  • Places that were already published stay on Unmapia for other travellers, credited to “Former contributor”.

Copies in our backups are overwritten within 14 days.

Your choices

  • Change your display name in your account settings.
  • Turn off “new places near you” notifications in the app, or all notifications in your phone’s settings.
  • Ask us for a copy of your data, or to correct it, using the contact below.

Children

Unmapia isn’t meant for children. If you’re under 18, please use it with a parent or guardian’s consent.

Changes and contact

If this policy changes, we’ll update this page and the date at the top. For anything about your privacy, contact us through the app or this website.
