The story

Kaas Plateau, or Kaas Pathar, is a volcanic rock plateau about 25 km from Satara, often called Maharashtra's Valley of Flowers. It is part of the Western Ghats UNESCO World Heritage site, and its reserve forest, covering over 1,000 hectares, is home to a number of rare and threatened species.

From August to October the plateau is covered by more than 850 kinds of wildflowers, plants and grasses, in yellow, pink, blue, purple and white. Among them are purple Karvi, blue Cyanotis and Smithia, nicknamed the Mickey Mouse flower. Daily visitor numbers are capped to protect the fragile ground. Kaas Lake lies close by, Thoseghar Waterfall is about 30 km away, and Ajinkyatara and Sajjangad forts are near Satara.
