Panchgani is a small hill town in the Sahyadri range of Satara district, a short drive from Mahabaleshwar. It is valued for its long views over misty, forested valleys, waterfalls and rocky crags, best seen from lookouts such as Sydney Point, Parsi Point and the flat plateau called Table Land, especially around sunset.
Strawberries are grown across the surrounding slopes, and nearby farms run guided visits where people can pick fruit and buy jams, preserves and desserts. The town also keeps a colonial character from the British period, with old bungalows, Victorian houses and churches; St Peter's Church is a Gothic building of the late 19th century. The Rajpuri Caves nearby are thought to have been an ancient Buddhist monastery.
