Ranchi Science Centre, the first science centre in Jharkhand, stands at Chiraundi village in Morhabadi, near Tagore Hill on the edge of Ranchi. The National Council of Science Museums built it on 13 acres of land given by the state, with the cost shared between the Jharkhand and central governments, and Chief Minister Arjun Munda opened it on 29 November 2010.
The two-storey building houses three permanent galleries: Fun Science, How Things Work and Wealth of Jharkhand. Outside, an 8-acre science park has interactive exhibits on simple machines, sound, optics and pendulums, along with models of prehistoric animals. The centre also has a 3D theatre, an inflatable planetarium dome, a science demonstration corner, a children's corner, a science library and a hall for temporary exhibitions.
