The story

Getalsud Dam, known locally as Rukka Dam, is a reservoir on the Subarnarekha River at Ormanjhi in Ranchi district, Jharkhand, on the north-eastern edge of the Chota Nagpur Plateau. Opened in 1971, it lies about 35 km from Ranchi and 30 km from Ramgarh. It was built mainly to supply drinking water to Ranchi, and also serves industry, including the Heavy Engineering Corporation at Hatia, and generates electricity.

The dam and its surroundings are a popular picnic spot for people from Ranchi and Ramgarh, and large crowds gather here at New Year and during Chhath. People of Rukka also fish on a small scale in the reservoir.
