The story

Dassam Falls, also called Dassam Ghagh, is a waterfall on the Kanchi River roughly 40 km from Ranchi. The river falls about 44 m (144 ft) over broken rock with a loud roar, and the forest around it supports a varied range of plants and wildlife. Geologically it is a knick point, formed where the river's rocky bed breaks sharply along its course.

The name comes from the Mundari "Da Song": da means water, and the ending refers to pouring, so over time the phrase became Dassam. Local belief holds that the noise of the fall drowns out every other sound and that shouting near it brings bad luck. Strong currents and uneven rock make swimming unsafe, so visitors keep to picnic spots and the forest trails leading to the fall.
