The story

Marshli Pahar, sometimes spelt Marshali Pahar, is a hill at Namkum on the outskirts of Ranchi. Set among rolling, wooded country away from the city traffic, it draws visitors throughout the year, mostly residents of Ranchi and nearby villages who come for outings with family and friends, as well as walkers attracted by its rough slopes and forest cover.

From the higher ground there are broad views over the green hills, and the breeze keeps the place cool. Religion is part of its appeal too: several old temples and holy sites lie in the area, the best known being the Shiva temple on Marshli Pahar, which receives devotees all year and is valued as a quiet spot for meditation.
