Hundru Falls is where the Subarnarekha River leaves the Ranchi plateau, falling about 98 metres in one of the tallest drops in Jharkhand. It is among the best-known sights around Ranchi. Like several falls in the area, it marks a break in the river's slope at the edge of the plateau, and the constant pounding of water has carved the rocks into striking shapes.
In the monsoon the falls become a powerful torrent; in the dry season the place turns into a popular picnic spot, and the pool at the foot of the falls is used for bathing. Hundru is reached either by turning off the Purulia Road and driving about 21 km, or by a shorter road from Ranchi via Ormanjhi and Sikidiri. A hydroelectric project on the Subarnarekha lies downstream.
