The story

Viyyoor Shiva Temple stands at Viyyoor in Thrissur, Kerala, on the north bank of the Puzhakkal river. Its presiding deity is Shiva in an angry aspect, and the image is installed so that it looks to the west.

Smaller shrines house Ganapathi, Sastha, the goddess Kali and the serpent gods. State Highway 39, the road between Kodungallur and Shoranur, runs along the eastern side of the temple, so the shrine lies right beside the route.
