The story

Padinjarechira is a pond in Thrissur city, counted among the four oldest in the city and regarded as one of its well-known landmarks. It is owned by Vadakke Madhom.

The pond goes back to Shakthan Thampuran (1751–1805), the Maharaja of Cochin, who created four ponds in Thrissur during his rule to manage the city's water and to irrigate land. Alongside Padinjarechira these were Vadakkechira, Thekkechira and Kizhakkechira. The last two no longer exist, which leaves Padinjarechira as one of only two survivors of the king's water scheme.
