Paramekkavu Bagavathi Temple, on Swaraj Round in Thrissur city, is one of the largest Bhagavathi temples in Kerala. Its name is tied to Thrissur Pooram, described as the largest festival of Kerala and South India.
Sakthan Thampuran arranged the temples taking part in the Pooram into two groups, the Paramekkavu side and the Thiruvambady side. Paramekkavu leads one of them, and the Thiruvambadi Sri Krishna Temple on Shoranur Road leads the other; the two temples stand barely 500 metres apart. The temple's devaswom also runs a school, Paramekkavu Vidya Mandir, on MLA Road near Kuttoor, as well as a kindergarten section close to the temple.
