The story

Thanikkudam Bhagavathi Temple stands in Thanikkudam, in Thrissur city, on the bank of the Puzhakkal River, also called the Thanikkudam River. It is dedicated to Bhadrakali in the form of Nanadurga and is under the Cochin Devaswom Board.

The temple is famous for an unusual arattu. When the river floods in the monsoon, the water flows into the main sanctum and covers the idol completely, and the arattu ceremony begins; devotees bathe in the floodwater together with the goddess. Few temples have such a ceremony.
