01 — The story

At Mattom, St. Thomas Forane Church serves Syro-Malabar Catholics in Thalapilly Taluk, Thrissur district, Kerala, and belongs to the Archdiocese of Thrissur. Its founding is dated to 140 AD, which would place it among the oldest churches in India.

The main feast falls in January each year and includes a ceremony in which an arrow is carried in procession. Ten other parishes come under this forane, among them St. Sebastian's at Chittattukara, from 1770, and St. Sebastian's at Kunnamkulam, from 1747.
