The story

Chowalloor Siva Temple is an old Shiva temple at Guruvayur in Thrissur district and one of five Shiva temples around Guruvayur. The west-facing idol is said in folklore to have been installed by Parashurama, and the temple is counted among Kerala's 108 Shiva temples. Only Hindus may enter.

The temple stands on about four acres. Its round sanctum has two storeys, the upper roof covered in copper, and a balikallu about ten feet tall blocks the view of the linga from outside. There is no flagstaff, since no annual flag festival is held here. A shrine to Subrahmanya, facing east on the north-west side, was added during a renovation in 2001. Three pujas are offered daily, and Shivaratri and Ashtami Rohini are the main festivals.
