The story

Ariyannur Temple stands at Kandanissery in Thrissur district and is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and Goddess Bhagavathi. Old texts and inscriptions refer to it, and rulers and local nobles supported its building and upkeep over the centuries. Its carved entrance gable has been likened to the wooden sculptures of the American artist Louise Nevelson. The yearly Ariyannur Ulsavam brings processions, music, dance and rituals.

Ariyannur village is also an archaeological site recorded by the Archaeological Survey of India. Six megalithic umbrella stones, called Topikkal or Kudaikkallu, stand together here over ancient burials; each is a domed laterite cap resting on four upright slabs. Guruvayur temple is about 4.7 km away.
