The story

Kaveri Nisargadhama is a 64-acre delta in the Kaveri River that local people call an island, about 3 km from Kushalnagar and 30 km from Madikeri in Kodagu district. It is a holiday spot reached by a hanging rope bridge.

Thick bamboo groves grow on the island along with sandalwood and teak. There are deer, rabbits and peacocks, an orchidarium and a children's playground. Visitors may enter the river at a few shallow points marked as safe, and elephant rides and boating are also offered. A forest department guest house and bamboo tree-top cottages provide places to stay.
