The story

Pushpagiri, also called Subramanya Hill, rises to 1,715 metres and is the highest point of the Pushpagiri Wildlife Sanctuary in the Western Ghats. It stands where Dakshina Kannada, Kodagu and Hassan districts meet, in Somwarpet taluk, and ranks as the second-highest peak in Kodagu and fourth in Karnataka. Its forests feed the Kumaradhara, the main tributary of the Netravathi.

Trekkers can approach from the east via Beedehalli and the Heggademane temple, the easier route as it starts at about 900 metres, or from the west at Kukke Subramanya, which begins near 165 metres. Permission is needed from the forest office near Batra Mane, about 6 kilometres from Kukke, which is also used for overnight camping. The summit holds two small temples, to Shiva and to Subramanya, and a stone believed to bear Subramanya's footprint.
