The story

Karneshwar Dham, also called Karneshwar Shiv Mandir, is an old Shiva temple complex at Karon in Deoghar district, Jharkhand, regarded as one of the sacred abodes of Shiva. Besides the main shrine of Baba Karneshwar, which holds the Shivalinga, the complex contains 27 other temples.

The name joins Karna and eshwar, the lord of Karna. Hindu belief holds that Karna, the Mahabharata figure who ruled Karon as part of Angadesh, was a devotee of Shiva and set up a Shivalinga on this spot for his own worship. Because the temple is believed to have been founded by King Karna, it carries his name.
