The story

Kapilnath Temple stands near Navratangarh in the Gumla district of Jharkhand. It is dedicated to Shiva and was built in 1643 CE, or Vikram Samvat 1700, by King Ram Shah of the Nagvanshi line.

According to legend, the king saw his cow's milk dripping into the mouth of a cobra, then had a vision of Shiva, and on the advice of his guru decided to raise a temple on the spot. Worship has continued ever since. An unusual feature is that the Shiva linga is not inside the temple but outside it, and a well lies close by. People come to worship daily and during the Shivratri festival.
