The story

Topchanchi Wildlife Sanctuary is an 8.75 sq km protected area close to the town of Topchanchi in Jharkhand, lying along National Highway 2. Most of it is dry mixed deciduous woodland with dry peninsular sal forest, where sal is the main tree and bamboo and grass cover the open plains.

Mammals found here include leopards, jungle cats, chital, barking deer and wild boar. Topchanchi Lake adds to the variety of habitats, and migratory birds stop at it during the winter.
