The story

Harihar Dham stands at Bagodar in Giridih district, Jharkhand, 1 km from the Grand Trunk Road and about 60 km south-west of Giridih town. Its centrepiece is a Shivalinga 65 ft (20 m) high, claimed to be the tallest in the world, which took around 30 years to build. The temple grounds cover 25 acres and are surrounded by a river.

The temple is a major draw for visitors, and devotees from across India come every year on Shravan Poornima, the full moon of the holy month of Shraavana, to worship Shiva. Its sanctity also makes it a favoured venue for Hindu weddings.
