The story

Rankini Mandir, also called Kapadgadi Ghat Rankini Mandir, is in Rohinibera village of Potka block, beside the Hata–Jadugora state highway, about 3 km from Jadugora and 35 km from Tatanagar station. Its deity is a stone believed to be the living form of the goddess, and devotees say it grows each year. Travellers through the old forest are said to have prayed here for protection.

Legend tells of a girl who fled a shepherd and hid in a washerman's bundle of clothes at Kapadgadi Ghat, where the bundle turned to stone. Dinbandhu Singh is said to have learned of the goddess in a dream and began worshipping the rock; his family and their trust, formed in 1954, still run the temple. The present building dates from around 1950, flanked by shrines to Ganesha and Shiva. The stone was first worshipped by the Bhumij people, whose priests still serve here, and it is revered by tribal and non-tribal communities alike.
