Tata Steel Zoological Park occupies about 62 acres of wooded ground in Jamshedpur, laid out along the shore of Jayanti Sarovar lake. Set up in 1992 and opened to visitors two years later, it keeps more than 150 species of mammals and birds gathered from many regions, and the Central Zoo Authority graded it a medium zoo in 2017.
Tigers, lions, leopards and elephants are among the larger residents, alongside a range of birds and reptiles. The zoo is best known for its Bengal tiger breeding work, and it has taken part in rescues such as the treatment and release of an injured elephant in 2019. Upgrades under way include a new veterinary facility, rearranged enclosures and stronger perimeter fencing, with completion targeted for 2025. The park also runs awareness and education programmes on conservation.
