Chandil Dam spans the Subarnarekha near Chandil in Seraikela Kharsawan district, Jharkhand, 22 km from Jamshedpur. Part of the Subarnarekha Multipurpose Project agreed by Bihar, Odisha and West Bengal in 1978, it is 720 m long and 56.5 m high, and its storage capacity of 1,500 million cubic metres is the largest of any dam in Jharkhand.
The district administration describes the dam as one of the most visited places in the state. The Dalma Hills rise above the reservoir, and a museum nearby displays rock inscriptions about 2,000 years old.
