The story

Hathai Kotor, the name now used for the range once called Baramura, runs through the middle of Tripura. In Kokborok the name means 'big mountains', a name bestowed by the Tiprasa people of the hills and of the foothills spread across what are now the West Tripura, Khowai and Gomati districts. National Highway 8, the road from Assam to Agartala, cuts across the range.

The Saidra and Sumli rivers rise in these hills before flowing on into Bangladesh. The Hathai Kotor Reserve Forest, in Khowai district, is counted among the biggest forest tracts in the state. The hills are known for great hornbills, which are celebrated at Hornbill Festivals held here, and the Hathai Kotor Eco-Park lies some 40 km from Agartala.
