The story

The Kasbeswari Kali Mata temple, also called the Kamalasagar Kali Temple, sits on a hillock in the village of Kasba, about 27 km from Agartala and right beside the border with Bangladesh. It looks over Kamalasagar, a lake dug by Maharaja Dhanya Manikya, who ruled Tripura from 1490 to 1520 and is credited with founding the hilltop temple late in the 15th century; the present building is described as dating from the 17th century.

The sandstone image in the sanctum is from the 15th century. It actually depicts the ten-armed Durga as Mahishasuramardini, yet is worshipped as Kali, and a Shiva linga is carved at its feet. The temple sees most devotees at festival times.
