This Sikh gurdwara stands on Andheri Kurla Road in Chakala, Andheri East, across from Holy Family Church. It grew out of the Guru Nanak Punjabi Sabha, set up by Shamsher Singh Jolly (1922–1992), who came to Andheri in 1955 as chief medical officer of the N J Wadia Dispensary. With a sizeable Sikh community nearby and the closest gurdwara some way off in Khar, he began holding kirtan in the outhouse of his official bungalow.
Land was bought in 1955 and building started in 1956. By 1967 the gurdwara, a charitable dispensary and a school, the Guru Nanak Mission High School, were all running from the site; the school later outgrew its first-floor rooms and moved to Mahakali Caves Road in 2000. Part of the ground floor was let as shops to keep the gurdwara financially independent, and it is still rented out today.
