01 — The story

The story

Gurdwara Anandgarh Sahib at Anandpur Sahib in Rupnagar district marks one of the five forts that Guru Gobind Singh built in the late 17th century. The fort protected the Khalsa against attacks and reflects the Guru's joining of faith with armed readiness, so the shrine is both a place of worship and a reminder of a time of conflict. Pilgrims come here from many countries.

The buildings still mix defensive features with the calm of a gurdwara. Gurbani is recited through the day and a community langar serves free meals to all. Anandpur Sahib itself, where the Khalsa was founded in 1699, is close by, and the Ropar Wetland and the Bhakra Nangal Dam can be visited from the same base.
