Chitrashala is a small palace within the Bundi Palace complex, built in the 18th century under Maharao Umed Singh. It was his private audience hall and a place of leisure for the royal household, laid out around a central courtyard with fountains, several rooms and arcaded corridors in Rajput style.
Its walls and ceilings are covered with paintings of the Bundi school. Many show the lives of Krishna and Radha; others depict myths, court scenes, royal portraits, flowers and animals. The Archaeological Survey of India looks after the building, and restoration work can sometimes be seen in progress. It is quieter than the main palace and draws fewer visitors.
