Sukh Mahal, the Palace of Bliss, is an 18th-century summer palace on the shore of Jait Sagar Lake in Bundi, built in the reign of Umed Singh. It was used by the royal women for leisure and as a base for boar hunts in the nearby forest. Its best-known feature is a white marble chhatri on the second-floor terrace, with views over the lake and town.
The walls carry paintings with a Mughal touch, and a hidden tunnel is said to link the building with the old palace as an escape route. There is a small museum of local objects, miniatures and sculpture, and a few guest rooms. One terrace room, called Kipling's Palace, is where Rudyard Kipling is said to have stayed and written part of Kim; it now holds photographs of him and covers of his books.
