The story

Achaleshwar Dham is a Hindu shrine near Batala in Gurdaspur district, associated with Shiva and his son Kartikeya and held to have deep roots in mythology. It stands in quiet farming country and draws devotees looking for a calm place of worship.

The temple complex is modest in size but has an air of age and devotion, and its plain surroundings leave room for prayer without distraction. It has long been part of the local pilgrimage round and fills with worshippers on auspicious days and at the festivals of Shiva. It is reached by road through Batala and is often combined with a trip to Gurdaspur or Amritsar.
