The story

Yelahanka Lake is a lake in Yelahanka, a suburb of Bengaluru, close to Puttenahalli Lake. Industrial effluent, sewage and rubbish once left it badly polluted and foul-smelling, contaminating groundwater and flooding low-lying homes in heavy rain. A revival was planned from 2010, and work was finally carried out in 2019 at a cost of ₹18 crore, adding a 6 km jogging track, sitting areas and many plants. Desilting increased the lake's capacity, raising the local water table and reducing reliance on Cauvery water.

After the BBMP handed the lake over in 2019, the Karnataka State Tourism Development Corporation started boat rides here. A musical fountain, gym equipment and sculptures have also been added around Yelahanka and nearby Allalasandra lakes, and volunteers planted a thousand saplings as part of the 'Wake the Lake' campaign.
