The story

The Kadu Malleshwara Temple is a Shiva temple in the Malleshwaram area of Bengaluru, built in the Dravidian style in 1669 by Venkoji, step-brother to the Maratha king Shivaji. 'Kadu' means forest, a reference to the thick greenery around the temple, and Shiva is worshipped here as Mallikarjuna.

In front of the temple stands the Nandishwara Teertha, or Basava Theertha, said to be the source of the Vrishabhavathi River. Shivaratri is the main festival of the year, when thousands of devotees from Bengaluru and the surrounding area come to the temple.
