The story

The Trilinga Sangameshwara Swamy temple stands in Vilasagar village in Telangana's Karimnagar district, roughly 23 km from Karimnagar town and 12 km from Vemulawada. It dates from the reign of the Kakatiya king Prola II (1115–1157 AD) and is unusual among Shiva temples in having three sanctums opening off one shared mukha mandapam, facing east, north and south. Each holds an identical linga about 5 feet 5 inches tall, while Parvathi and Lakshmi Ganapathi have places in the mandapam. Over every sanctum rises a pyramid-shaped shikhara of ten tiers topped by a kalasham, a form the Archaeology Department compares with the Padmakshi temple in Hanamkonda.

A Seetha Ramachandra Swamy shrine stands to the north-west within the same complex, so the site is treated as a Harihara kshetram honouring both Shiva and Vishnu. Mahashivaratri, with its jathara, is the main festival, followed by Sri Rama Navami, and Hanuman Jayanthi, Ganesh and Devi Navaratri and the Sravana and Karthika months are also observed.
