St. Mary's Forane Church at Edoor, about 6.5 km from Iritty in Kannur district, is a well-known Marian pilgrim centre and the first church named after Mary in the Archdiocese of Thalassery, as well as its largest parish. The parish was founded in 1946 by settlers from Travancore, and the present church was built in 1970. It is circular with a central dome, giving a wide view of the altar, which was renovated in 2012. Its three doorways carry the inscriptions Venite Adoremus, Ave Maria and My Lord, My God, and there is no veil between the altar and the nave.
The church is known for Edooramma, a statue of Mary in a blue gown holding a white dove and a rosary, with a crown of twelve stars. Missionaries brought it from abroad for another church, but the story goes that the vehicle broke down at Edoor and the statue stayed. A wooden crucifix shows Christ held by four nails. The feast of St Mary in the first week of January draws people of all faiths.
