Chelavara Falls is formed by a small stream, a tributary of the Kaveri, near Cheyyandane village on the Virajpet–Talakaveri state highway (SH 90), about 16 km from Virajpet. It lies on the road towards Kabbe Holidays Homestay, near Thadiyandamol, the highest point in Kodagu. From the parking area, a walk of about 200 metres into the forest brings the falls into view.
The pool is about 100 feet deep, and it is easy to be pulled into dangerous water. Danger signs are posted all around and locals warn against going in; some 20 people have lost their lives at the falls.
