The story

Sreeraman Chira is a freshwater lake at Chemmappilly, close to Triprayar in Thrissur district. The lake takes in about 900 hectares of paddy fields.

The place is tied to the Ramayana. A team of priests from Thriprayar Temple carries out the Chira kettal here, the sacred binding of the bund. The ceremony recalls Sethubandhanam, the episode in which Hanuman and his army built the Rama Setu to cross to Lanka and free Sita from Ravana, king of the Rakshasas.
