Sree Maheswara Temple is in Koorkenchery, within Thrissur city. Its main image of Shiva was consecrated by Narayana Guru in the Malayalam year 1092. Smaller shrines house Parvathi, Ganapathi, Murugan, Ayyappan, Krishna, Muthappan, Bhadrakali, the Navagrahas and serpent deities.
Although the temple belongs to Shiva, its chief celebration is the Thaipooya Mahotsavam, a seven-day festival for Subramanya. It ranks among the largest festivals around Thrissur, possibly second only to Thrissur Pooram.
