The Sree Krishna Swami Temple stands in the middle of Thodupuzha town in Idukki district, on the banks of the Thodupuzhayar, a tributary of the Muvattupuzha. Krishna is worshipped as Navaneetha Krishna, holding butter in his right palm. Legend says a wandering Brahmin pilgrim had a vision of Krishna here, bathed in the river and offered food by lamplight on Chothi day in Meenam; a raja of Keezhmalanadu later built the shrine and installed the idol.
The Chothioottu feast still feeds pilgrims free of charge. In front of the temple is the Nilapaduthara, the platform where the idol is said to have been received, to which it is brought out at festivals. The annual festival falls in Meenam, in March or April, with Utsav Bali on the ninth day. Bhagavathy, Shiva, Ganapathi, Ayyappa and the Nagas are sub-deities, and the temple has an early wedding hall, Krishna Theertham.
