Ilaveezhapoonchira is a hilltop in Kottayam district, roughly 3,200 feet above sea level. The name means 'the valley where leaves don't fall', a reference to the bare, treeless hillocks that roll away on every side. The summit gives a full circle of views over hills and valleys, and on clear days neighbouring districts and distant peaks are visible. Sunrise and sunset draw photographers.
During the monsoon, clouds drift across the hills and water gathers in the land below. Footpaths climb to the top through thick vegetation and rocky stretches, a short trek within reach of beginners. Vagamon, the Marmala Waterfalls, the Thangalpara rock formation, Ettumanoor Mahadeva Temple and Poonjar Palace can all be combined with a visit.
