Shri Mahaveer Hanuman Mandir, also called Thakurdwara, stands in a valley at Khushala village on the Lagroo road, about 5 km below Shoghi and 11 km from Shimla's Welcome Gate at Taradevi. It began as a Radha Krishna temple, and its metal idols of the pair are still worshipped. Legend says Hanuman paused on the nearby peak while carrying the Sanjivani herb to Lanka, and the hermit Baba Jankidas, meditating there, begged him to remain in idol form; the village name, meaning efficiency, is tied to this story. The domed temple is said to be about 2,500 years old.
Two large statues of Hanuman face west and south, and paintings in the Pahari and Kangra styles keep their original work. Many samadhis of saints give the temple a third name, Derajamatiya, the encampment of saints. Devotees bring the first of their harvest, especially in Jyeshtha and Kartika, and a bhandara is held on Sundays and festivals. Buses and taxis reach the gate, where there is parking.
