The story

Tara Devi Temple stands on a hilltop at around 7,200 feet, an 11 km drive from Shimla, among tall deodar trees with wide views of the Himalaya. It is said to have been built by the Raja of Junga roughly 250 years ago, which places it among the oldest temples in the area. Pilgrims reach it by a winding path through forest and meadow.

The temple is dedicated to Tara Devi, the 'Star Goddess', worshipped as a protector. Its pahadi-style woodwork includes carved doors on the main front showing small figures of goddesses, and one sacred area inside is richly covered in gold and silver. Festivals and religious ceremonies are held here through the year.
