The story

This Shiva temple is in Narayanapur village, Bidar district, about 4 km from Basavakalyan, and is an example of Kalyani Chalukya architecture. It is laid out in three parts, a sanctum and two pillared halls. Carvings of Narasimha killing Hiranyakashipu and of various forms of Vishnu and of Lakshmi suggest that it may once have been a Vishnu temple.

Salabhanjika figures line the outer walls, the inner ceilings carry detailed floral patterns, and two broken makara toranas sit at either side of the entrance. Because water leaked through the damaged ceiling, a concrete roof has recently been added. A well stands nearby, with a second, dilapidated temple beside it. Each August the deity is carried in procession around the village.
