The story

Humnabad is a town in Bidar district best known for its Veerabhadreshwara temples, built in 1725 by Raja Ramchandra Jadhav. They honour Veerabhadra, the fierce form Shiva created in his anger after Sati died at King Daksha's sacrifice. One temple has a pair of lamp pillars about 50 feet tall on either side of the sanctum, as well as a so-called moving pillar that continues to puzzle visitors.

The main event is the Veerabhadreshwara Jatra with its cart festival in January and February. The Manik Prabhu Temple holds its own jatra and an annual December festival with classical music by leading Indian artists. The town also has the Karibasaveshwar, Nageshwara and Beerallingeshwar temples, a Balaji Mandir and a Sai Baba temple.
