The story

The Iswara Temple, also called Kamaleshwara or Kalleshwara, stands beside the village tank at Jalasangvi, about 10 km north-west of Humnabad in Bidar district. Inscriptions date it to the reign of Vikramaditya VI of the Kalyani Chalukya dynasty, and it is built on a star-shaped plan.

The outer walls are covered with figures of women in varied dress, jewellery and hairstyles, posed in the tribhanga stance; these sculptures are said to have inspired the later Hoysala bracket figures at Belur, Halebidu and Somanathapura. The best known is Shasana Sundari, a dancing woman shown writing a Sanskrit verse in Kannada script in praise of Vikramaditya VI. Inside are three chambers: a dance hall with eight pillars, a carved Nandi chamber and a sanctum with a linga. A Ganesha sculpture is also found here.
