Pisola Fort sits exactly on the border of Dhule and Nashik districts, one side in Sakri taluka and the other in Satana taluka, about 125 km from Nashik. Together with Dermal, Kankrala and Galna it forms a row of four forts along the Galna hill range, and despite its importance few trekkers come here.
The base village is Wadi Pisol, 35 km from Satana, and the easy climb takes about an hour. The best-preserved building is a small mosque at the western edge, and trekkers can spend the night there or in the fort's caves. The rock-cut arched gateway of the Rang Mahal pleasure palace still stands though its walls have collapsed, and near the entrance two rock-cut cisterns on the scarp carry carvings of Nandi and lingas. An hour is enough to see the whole fort.
