The story

Chauler Fort is a small fort about 100 km north of Nashik, near the town of Satana, and can be visited on a day trip from Nashik. Its story runs alongside that of Salher and Mulher: King Gawali once ruled it, and it stayed with the Maratha empire until British forces took it in 1818.

The fort occupies a high tableland walled by cliffs on every side. Its three entrance gates are admired for their architecture, though the walls and the buildings inside are in ruins. Four rock-cut water tanks survive, along with a statue of Chauranganath, honoured each August with a village fair on Pithuri Amavasya.
