01 — The story

The story

Mora fort, or Moragad, is a small fort on the Selbari range in the Baglan area of Nashik district, just east of Mulher fort. The Selbari range runs east to west parallel to the Dolbari range to its north, and the forts on both were kept to watch the old Burhanpur–Surat trade road that passes between them. No separate history of Mora is recorded.

A good road runs to the base village of Mulher, then a two-hour walk to the saddle linking Mulher and Mora, and roughly one more hour to climb and explore the fort. Rock-cut steps lead up through two rock-cut gates, both in good condition, and the top has a few cisterns and caves but no major buildings. Drinkable water is lacking on top, so walkers should bring their own. From the summit Mangi-Tungi, Salher, Salota, Hargad, Mulher and Nhavigad are all in view.
